Update

Phew, hectic times in the Breibeest household. Busy at work, busy with other activities, busy with travelling from and to work. And therefore, too little time to write and comment about knitting. So, here's a very quick update with many photos and (this time) not so much blah-blah :-) ... if you'd like some more information about the projects below, click on the photos and you'll arrive at their Flickr page!

To start: a few forgotten FOs that I found when cleaning our wardrobe.

Glimmende roze muts.

Glossy & Pink Cap

Glossy pink hat. Doesn't flatter me, but it's cute for someone else! Size teenage girl or small woman's head; does anyone want it?

Vliegeniersmuts in acryl. Hele leuke constructie, maar niet flatterend. En die acryl, brr.

Aviator Cap

Aviator cap in acrylic. Cool construction (short rows), but not flattering. And that acrylic... shudder.

En nog wat nieuwtjes:

And then some new(er) stuff:

Ringwood sock in Trekking Pro Natura

The Trekking Pro Natura socks (a Nancy Bush pattern) are progressing slowly. They make me pretty happy, because they look very elegant when worn.

Noro Scarf, "Hers"

A striped Noro scarf. Some time ago, I had made a blue one for my boyfriend; now I'm making myself a pink one!

Onze kleine man (2 jaar) krijgt binnenkort lekker warme merino handschoenen en een bijpassende muts.

Toddler glove

Our little one (2 years old) will soon receive nice and warm, merino mittens and a matching hat.

Hand warmers for S.

And for a stylish friend (who normally only wears black) I'm making these hand warmers as a birthday gift.

Ravelry!

Has someone in the Netherlands (or Europe, or outside the US) already received an invitation to Ravelry?

Ravelry is a Web 2.0 application for knitting and crochet. It's an extensive community website where you can create a profile, track your own knitting and crochet projects and keep track of who else shares the same patterns, yarns and tools with you.
I've been looking for such a site for some time already. I do love blogs and flickr, I use del.icio.us and go to forums every now and then. But it would be very handy to have everything in one place.
Only, Ravelry is not officially released yet, it's still in beta. I registered as a volunteer for beta testing more than a week ago, but haven't received an invitation yet. Are they a bit behind, having a long waiting list, or giving preference to US users first? I've seen in other blogs that others have been accepted before me...

Oh well, I'm pretty curious, that must be obvious :-)

Kleine Cowboy...

Lil' Cowboy, originally uploaded by Breibeest.

During the past, busy weeks, I did manage to finish a few things -- my purple Trekking XXL Jaywalkers (now in the laundry, pictures will follow) and this cute cowboy hat for my Little Toddler Man!

The pattern is Child's Cowboy Hat -- fun to crochet, and ready in a single day (a few hours, actually). The yarn is Samos Novita; I used one and a half skein of the lovely cotton-acryl mix that my Secret Pal sent me. Thanks, Pal, I hope you like what I did with it!

My boy, in any case, looks über cute with it. Great hat for the Summer -- airy and with a large brim to block the sun from his vulnerable toddler skin. I still intend to add a decorative ribbon, a felted sheriff star and ropes to secure the hat under his chin, as my son is a pretty wriggly fellow :-)

Wanneer en door wie / When and by whom?

I'm pretty busy at work -- hence the relative silence at this blog. I haven't been knitting much the past week; I've started a pair of black silk socks for my Big Man and have started with the 10 first rows of a brown cotton Rusted Root. That's all, folks :-)

Bobbi, our "group leader" in Secret Pal 10, has a nice set of questions for us. Dear readers, feel free to answer them as well, in the comments!

1) How old were you when you learned how to knit?
8 years old. I grew up in Belgium and went to a girls-only, rather strict and traditional catholic primary school. When we were 8, we learned to crochet, to knit, to do simple embroidery and cross stitch, and even some macrame. I think we're one of the last generations of schoolgirls who had this in their curriculum, but I'm not sure!

2) Who taught you?
Our school teacher of 3rd grade (for 8-9 year old girls). Sadly, I entirely forgot her name... But I must say that my mom and my paternal grandmother nourished my love for knitting and crochet -- my mother was a rather fanatic knitter (she made heaps of spectacular, typical 1980s sweaters, many from the Anny Blatt brand) and my grandmother made dozens of crochet doilies, bedspreads and pillow cases.

How about you, reader?
