Secret Pal 11 Questionnaire (eng)

Hi there, new Secret Pal! Nice to meet you... I hope we'll have fun together :-) To start, here's my questionnaire. It's different from my Secret Pal 10 questionnaire... this means that I've evolved as a knitter (I like to grow and learn!) and that you definitely do not have to take everything in this questionnaire very literally.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?

There are very few fibers that I don't like. I can appreciate good-quality, cheap, sturdy 100% acrylic for kids, and I can appreciate lovely and exclusive 100% silks or alpacas or cashmeres. If the yarn is well-made, interesting and of good quality, I will probably like it.

I don't mind synthetics; my clothes usually get dirty rather quickly (I have a toddler son) and I like my handknits to be low-maintenance. When I knit for myself, I usually go for synthetic and wool or cotton mixes. Every now and then I spoil myself (or someone else) with something luxurious too.

I'm always interested in local yarn brands, so sending me something from your own country will always make me happy!

That said, I'm usually not a very big fan of crazy novelty yarns. A bit of glimmer can be cool, but I'm not into eyelash yarns or crazy effects. And I deeply hate yarn that pills. Ugh!!

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?

I have a simple, 40 cm long plastic needle bag for my long straight needles and two simple pouches for my dpns and my crochet hooks. Nothing fancy, but they're handy and organized enough.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?

I learned to knit and crochet when I was 8, at my Belgian catholic girls' school. Haven't done it continuously, though. I consider myself a good intermediate and I'm willing to try and undertake complex projects.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?

I have an Amazon wish list which is not up-to-date anymore. If you like, I can update it and send you the URL.

5. What's your favorite scent?

My favorite perfume, since my teenage years, has been Eau d'Issey by Issey Miyake: very light and fresh (luckily it's a classic that won't go out of the market).
I love many natural smells; my favorites are probably lime and orange tree blossoms. I also adore the smell of any good food that is on the stove or in the oven, the smell of fresh coffee, of the sea, of freshly-mown grass, of rain and springtime and autumn leaves... mmm... so many good smells.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?

I love to eat, and I love sweets (probably a bit too much as I tend to being a bit overweight :-). I like good cookies, pastry and chocolate but am not very fond of licorice.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?

I also crochet (love it!), but not often enough. I can do cross-stitch embroidery, macrame, beadwork. I'm handy and creative with computers in general and I consider myself a decent amateur photographer. I would love to learn to spin with a simple drop spindle and I want to learn to sew. I already own a sewing machine (an old simple Singer that my Mom gave to me) and want to get started with it this Autumn.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)

I can appreciate almost anything that is good in its own genre and I like to discover new things. I tend to prefer to listen to world music, funk, disco, soul, indie rock (the more experimental kind), electronic music (IDM) and contemporary classical.
My computer does play mp3s.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand?

I prefer darker, saturated and bright colors and am not a very big fan of white, beiges and pastels (these don't flatter me very much, I find).
Some of my favorite colors are petrol blue (saturated dark blue-green), purple, dark and bright blue, dark and bright green, brown, gray, deep orange and "old pink". I wear a lot of black.

I'm usually not a big fan of variegated yarns (although exceptions are possible). I usually buy and knit with solids and semi-solids.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?

I live together with my boyfriend and our sweet and adorable two-year-old son. We are very much cat lovers, but at this moment we don't have a cat because of our small house and the probable toddler&cat incompatibility.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?

Yes to everything, except ponchos.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?

Same as with yarn: I can appreciate a lot of different things. Like many people, I enjoy knitting socks, but I also find it fun to make larger projects such as sweaters and shawls. These take forever, though; my attention span is rather short :-)

13. What are you knitting right now?

On the needles now: a Hanami Stole, a crocheted Reduction Tote Bag, one Pomatomus sock (Second Sock Syndrome!), a bulky Feather and Fan Comfort Shawl and a brown cotton Stargazer summer top.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?

Yes, absolutely!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?

It all depends on the project; I knit with straight or circular needles equally. I own all kinds of needles, but my favorite ones seem to be very slippery metal ones: Addi Turbo circulars and vintage Atan straight needles.
I'm not very fond of coated aluminum needles; I don't like how they feel when they rub against each other.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?

I own both. I thought I wouldn't need them, but I was wrong :-)

17. How old is your oldest UFO?

Almost a year: a pile of crocheted hexagons that are destined to become an afghan (or maybe not).

18. What is your favorite holiday?

The Belgian national holiday: 21 July. The weather is usually superb and summery then and I often go to the Gentse Feesten (a fantastic city festival in Ghent, Belgium) around that time.

19. Is there anything that you collect?

Shoes and clothing :-)
I'm also very much a fan of beautiful modernist and vintage glass, furniture and tableware (especially Dutch and Scandinavian), but I don't actively collect that.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?

I only have a subscription to Rowan Magazine and I usually buy the very nice Dutch craft magazine Handwerken Zonder Grenzen. I intend to get a subscription to Interweave Knits as well.
I'd like to buy the Barbara Walker stitch pattern books and some more books by Nancy Bush (haven't decided yet which ones).

If you would have old issues of Interweave Knits or Crochet, then I'd be very interested in photocopies of the following patterns (only if you have them!):
- the Union Square Market Pullover by Kate Gilbert, Interweave Knits, Fall 2005

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?

- Intarsia / fair isle
- A moebius wrap
- Spinning with a drop spindle
- And I want to start designing patterns.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?

Yes! My feet are European size 39; exactly 25 cm long. I like it when my socks are snug-fitting, I usually make them 23 to 24 cms long when I knit them for myself.

Recyclage

Het is eindelijk zomer, mensen! Na dit postje ga ik me weer op ons balkonnetje installeren, met een fris glaasje witte wijn. Heerlijk!

Finally, Summer has arrived in the Low Countries! After writing this blog post I'll return to our balcony with a glass of fresh white wine. Mmmm!

Op het UFO-front weinig nieuws. Ik ben met een paar grote projecten bezig waar ik al eerder over schreef; er zijn weinig vorderingen te melden want de voorbije week heb ik mijn vrije tijd vooral aan Harry Potter, familie en gezin besteed. Ook niet slecht :-)

No news on the UFO front. I'm working on several larger projects that I've written about earlier; I can report very few developments because I spent last week's free hours mostly in the company of Harry Potter and my family and loved ones. Not too bad either :-)

Of misschien toch. Op marktplaats.nl vond ik vorige week, erg goedkoop, een tiental bollen Lana Grosse Due (50% merinowol, 50% acryl in bulky dikte) in een heel mooi bordeaux-steenrood. En daarmee maak ik nu aan een sneltreintempo een grove en warme feather-and-fan-omslagdoek. De sjaal/doek moet 150 cm breed worden en is bedoeld als kadootje voor mijn moeder, die begin dit jaar een stevige hartoperatie ondergaan heeft. Ze is nu (na heftige complicaties) eindelijk goed herstellende, maar om een onduidelijke reden heeft ze het altijd erg koud. Een hele warme, knusse en zachte omslagdoek zal haar hopelijk goed van pas komen.



Or, maybe there is a bit of news. On marktplaats.nl (the very popular Dutch ebay clone) I found 10 balls of Lana Grossa Due: bulky yarn in a 50% merino / 50% acrylic mix. For a very low price, and in a lovely deep dark red color. Great find! With this yarn, I'm now making a bulky, soft and warm feather and fan shawl. It is destined to become 150 cm broad; a gift for my mom, who had major heart surgery in the beginning of this year. Finally, after some worrying complications, she is slowly recovering. But for some unclear reason she's always cold; I hope this shawl will help her stay warm.

En dan zijn er ook mijn recyclage-avonturen. Ik volg al een tijdje de blog Cosymakes, van Cosette, een erg interessante breister die theologie gestudeerd heeft en die o.a. erg mooie mutsen maakt van gerecycleerde wol en knopen. Ze legt een heel interessante link tussen theologie en textiel"kunst" -- respect voor materialen, voor het handgemaakte, en het idee dat je "levenloze", massa-geproduceerde kledingstukken een tweede leven kan geven. Ik kan me hier erg in vinden; ik brei zelf o.a. omdat ik erg kritisch sta tegenover de mode- en kledingindustrie, en het idee van recyclage past daar erg goed in.
Dankzij Cosette's blog heb ik dus zelf ook veel zin gekregen om de wol van tweedehands truien te gaan recycleren. Een tijdje geleden heb ik een oude katoen-acryltrui van Mexx uitgehaald; ik droeg de trui niet meer maar kon er ook moeilijk afscheid van nemen. Naden losgetornd, en de uithaal-actie is goed geslaagd: 600 g zacht en licht "worsted weight" zwart garen. Misschien maak ik er wel een Rusted Root mee... wie weet?



And then: my recycling adventures. For some time now, I've been following Cosymakes, a blog by Cosette, a knitter who studied theology and who (among other things) makes beautiful hats from recycled wool and thrifted buttons. She makes a very interesting connection between theology and textiles -- respect for materials, for the handmade, and the idea that "lifeless", mass-produced garments can receive a second life through thrifting and re-use. I knit, among other things, because I'm very critical of the clothing and fashion industry; recycling and re-use fit very well into this picture.
By reading Cosette's blog, therefore, I really started to dig the idea to start recycling thrifted and second-hand wool and sweaters as well. Some time ago, I experimented with an old cotton-acrylic Mexx sweater that I didn't wear anymore (it was never very flattering). I found it difficult to dispose of it, and therefore I undid the seams and ripped it entirely. Result: 600g of very soft and light worsted weight black yarn which may, for example, become a beautiful Rusted Root for myself... who knows?

De voorbije weken heb ik met enige regelmaat verder gewerkt aan m'n Hanami-sjaal. Wat een fijn project is het! Het gaat best snel vooruit, het patroon is vrij makkelijk en ik vind de wol (Rowan Kidsilk Night, een fijne mohair-zijdemix met een subtiel zilveren glimmertje) heerlijk.

During the past few weeks, I've regularly worked on my Hanami Stole. It's a great project! Pretty quick; the pattern is easy and I find the yarn (Rowan Kidsilk Night, a fine mohair-silk mix with a subtle silver glimmer) really nice and fun to work with.

Het fijne aan het patroon: het geeft niks als je even een klein foutje maakt, de gaatjes zijn zo onregelmatig dat fouten echt niet zichtbaar zijn.

One cool feature of the pattern? It really doesn't matter if you make a minor mistake (e.g. some miscounting of yarnovers). The holes are so irregular that small miscalculations are totally invisible.

Het oorspronkelijke patroon bevat een regelmatig "geweven" ajourpatroon aan één kant en een onregelmatige "regen" van gaatjes aan de andere kant. Ik hou zelf heel veel van onregelmatige patronen en doe dus de "regen" aan twee kanten. Ik ben begonnen in het midden, met een voorlopige opzetrij. Nog zo'n 15 cm te gaan, dan ben ik aan het ene uiteinde gekomen en dan is de sjaal voor de helft af. Dan neem ik de steken in het midden opnieuw op en maak ik de andere kant op precies dezelfde manier.

The original pattern contains a regular basketweave lace pattern on one side, and an irregular cherry blossom "snow" pattern of holes on the other side. I'm very fond of irregularity and randomness myself, so I want to make the "random" pattern on both sides. I started in the middle with a provisional cast-on. Still 15 cms on one side to go, then the stole will be half done. Next, I will pick up the stitches from the provisional cast-on and knit the other side in exactly the same way.

Ik denk dat de sjaal, na licht opspannen, zo'n 60 cm breed en zo'n 2 meter lang wordt.

I think that, after light blocking, the stole will measure approx. 60 x 200 cm.

They're finished: the Boyfriend Socks (aka the Socks That Took Me Four Months)!



Waarom duurde het zo lang? Ik denk dat het vooral lag aan het zwarte garen (Regia Silk Uni, erg zacht!), aan de 80 steken per rij en aan het feit dat ik het kabelmotief niet echt onderhoudend vond. Door de ribben zou dit een erg snel patroon kunnen zijn, maar de kabels onderbreken de "flow" nogal.
In elk geval: ze zijn nu toch af, en het resultaat mag er wezen, vind ik zelf toch! Het is het eerste paar dat ik ooit voor mijn vriend heb gebreid; dat er nog vele mogen volgen (maar niet in het zwart :-)

Why did it take so long? I blame the black yarn (Regia Silk Uni -- very soft!), the 80 stitches per row and the fact that I didn't find the pattern entertaining enough. The ribbing makes it, potentially, a very quick knit (which I like) but the cables interrupt the flow all the time. Or something like that. In any case, I'm proud of the result and I'm happy that they look so good on my sweetheart's feet! This was the first pair I've ever knit for him, and I hope that many others will follow (not black ones, though :-)

Intussen probeer ik me braafjes aan mijn Systeem te houden: maximaal vijf (5) actieve projecten tegelijk. (En dat vraagt heel veel zelfbeheersing van me!) Doordat de Boyfriend Socks nu klaar zijn, kon ik een nieuw project starten. Hoera! Gisteravond ben ik begonnen aan Stargazer uit Magknits juli 2007. Ik maak het met bruine Katia Espiga en moet nog op zoek naar een mooi zwart accentgaren voor de "band".

In the meanwhile, I try to be a good girl and to stick to my System: I allow myself to work on max. five (5) active projects simultaneously. (That is HARD for me.) Because the Boyfriend Socks are finished, I can now start a new project. Hurray! Yesterday evening, I've cast on for Stargazer from Magknits July 2007. I'm making it with brown Katia Espiga, a very drapey cotton-microfiber blend. Still need to find a nice black yarn for the contrasting sash.

Tomatomus? Granatomus? EU KAL?

Ik ben al een tijdje (een drietal weken?) sporadisch bezig met een paar Pomatomus-sokken. (Het patroon is ook vertaald naar het Nederlands en beschikbaar bij Wolhalla!) Het is het "moeilijkste" sokkenpatroon wat ik ooit probeerde (OK, misschien met concurrentie van de Kew-sokken). En er was een valse start: ik was begonnen met naalden van 2,5 mm maar de sok paste niet over m'n hiel! Maar met 3 mm wordt het een perfecte, rekbare sok voor me.

Sporadically (for three weeks now?) I've been working on a pair of Pomatomus socks. It's the "spiciest" sock pattern I've ever attempted (though Kew is probably a close second). And there was a false start (?): I first knitted a pattern repeat with 2,5 mm needles but that was too tight to fit over my heal! So I frogged that and re-started with 3 mm Addis; at this moment I'm almost looking at a finished, stretchy and fitting first sock for my wide feet and shapely calves.



De wol: Wollmeise Sockenwolle in kleur Granatapfel, medium. De Wollmeise is een Duitse dame die met de hand wol in prachtige, felle kleuren verft. Echt een ontdekking. De kleuren zijn ongelooflijk mooi en diep, en de sokkenwol is bijzonder stevig en glad waardoor de steken heel goed uitkomen. Geen rekbare wol zoals Colinette Jitterbug dus, en ook niet pluizig zoals Opal en Trekking en andere bekende Duitse sokkengarens.

The yarn: Wollmeise Sockenwolle in colorway Granatapfel, medium. The Wollmeise is a German lady who dyes wool in the most fantastic, bright colors. A true discovery. The colors are extremely deep and rich; her sock yarn, furthermore, is very sturdy and slick and has amazing stitch definition. It's not stretchy at all, so very different from the likes of Colinette Jitterbug. It also has NO fuzz, unlike Opal and Trekking and other well-known German sock yarns.

Sinds ik op Ravelry zit, heb ik een hoop interessante nieuwe garens leren kennen. Wollmeise kende ik al eerder, maar ik stootte ook op Habu -- een Japans merk dat een heel breed aanbod van "high-tech" garens heeft in allerlei mengelingen. Zoals zijde met roestvrij staal (!) en dergelijke. Spannend vind ik dat! Weet iemand een goeie of goedkope manier om in Europa aan Habu-garen te komen?

Since I've been using Ravelry, I've discovered several interesting yarns. I knew Wollmeise already, but I also happened upon Habu -- apparently a Japanese brand with a very broad range of (what I'd call) high-tech yarns in all kinds of blends. Such as... ahem... silk with stainless steel, anyone? Incredible, and just the thing for me! Does anyone know of a good and/or affordable way to find Habu yarns in Europe?

Die ontdekkingstocht bracht me ook op ideeën. Op Ravelry vind je vooral Amerikaanse garens; logisch, want ik schat dat 95% van de gebruikers (momenteel) in de VS wonen. Maar er zijn ook zoveel goeie onafhankelijke en kleinschalige wolververs, spinners e.d. in Europa! Zo vind je bijvoorbeeld bij Miss Bockstarck een leuk overzicht van Duitse kleine "indie" bedrijfjes die handgeverfde wol maken en verkopen. Bij ons in Rotterdam heb je natuurlijk de onvolprezen Storm op Zolder. En in andere Europese landen...?
Dus: ik heb erg veel zin om een "Europese Handgeverfde Garens Knit-Along" te lanceren om al die kleine maar hele goeie bedrijfjes in het zonnetje te zetten. Wat vinden jullie van dit plan? Zou je meedoen aan zo'n KAL? En vooral, als jullie het idee leuk vinden, is er iemand die zin heeft om dit samen met mij te organiseren? Ik denk dat het best veel werk is om zo'n KAL goed te managen, dus hulp is zeker welkom.



This treasure hunt gave me some ideas. On Ravelry, the majority of popular yarns are US-based; logical since (my rough estimate) 95% of all users live in the States. But there are so many wonderful indie, small-scale spinners, dyers etc. in Europe! For example, Miss Bockstark has made a nice list of German indie yarn shops. And here in Rotterdam we have our superb Storm op Zolder. In other European countries, there are probably other gems to be found and discovered.
So: I feel like initiating a "European Indie Handdyed Yarn Knit-Along" (under a sexier name, preferably) in order to give our own indie yarn folks some well-deserved exposure. What do you think, dear readers? Would you participate in such a KAL? And especially, if you fancy the idea, are there people out there who would like to help me organizing it? I think it's quite a bit of work to manage such a KAL, and I would like to do it right, so all help is welcome!

Door de wol geverfd / Dyed in the wool

Deze week heb ik voor het eerst geprobeerd om zelf wol te verven, met vier van de zes zakjes Kool-Aid die mijn Secret Pal Maijamirjami naar me gestuurd had. Ik gebruikte het artikel in Knitty over verven met Kool-Aid als richtlijn. En ik vond het erg leuk!

This week, I tried dyeing yarn for the first time. I used four of the six packs of Kool-Aid that my Secret Pal Maijamirjami had sent me, and of course a ball of blank ONline sock yarn. I used Knitty's Kool-Aid tutorial for guidance.

Ik had al vaker wol gezien die met Kool-Aid geverfd was, en vond die er altijd erg "zuurstokkerig" uitzien (niet vreemd, het is dan ook limonade...) en ik wou vooral uitproberen of ik de kleuren zo verzadigd en donker mogelijk kon maken. En dat is best wel gelukt, vind ik.

I had seen other yarn dyed with Kool-Aid and always found the colors rather "sugary" (no wonder, it's lemonade after all). So, my main goal was to try and make the colors as dark and saturated as possible. I think I succeeded in that.

Ik doop deze unieke en éénmalige kleur "Dora the Explorer". Want het zijn leuke, kinderlijke felle kleurtjes, en als Dora zelf handgebreide sokken zou dragen, dan zou dit wolletje een goeie kandidaat ervoor zijn.

I'm baptizing this unique colorway "Dora the Explorer". Because the colors are happy and childlike; if Dora would wear handknit socks, this yarn would be a great candidate, I think.

Ik heb m'n hele werkproces op foto gezet. Hier zie je een diavoorstelling ervan. Pas op: dit is geen handleiding... ik ben een beginner en heb vast een aantal fouten gemaakt!



I made photos of my entire working process, just for fun. You can see a slide show here. Disclaimer: this is not a tutorial! I'm an absolute beginner and I have probably made some mistakes.

Ik heb in elk geval één heel grote stommiteit begaan: bij het uitspoelen na het verven heb ik mijn hele streng in de war gebracht. Stom, stom, stom. Ik heb de streng uuuuuren aan een stuk ontward, in een wolk van snoepgeur. Mijn vriend durfde niet bij me in de buurt te komen, want ik zat te vloeken en te zuchten en was vreselijk boos op mezelf. Maar uiteindelijk is het goed gekomen.

In any case, I did ONE major stupid thing -- when rinsing the yarn after the dye job, I let my whole skein become one big tangled mess. That was SO dumb. I've spent an entire evening untangling the hank, of course surrounded by a pervasive cloud of sweet candy smell. My boyfriend, wisely, didn't come near me as I was cursing, sighing and generally being extremely pissed at myself. But in the end it turned out fine.

Ben ik nu door een virus gebeten? Zou ik het opnieuw doen? Ik vond het erg leuk om uit te proberen en wil het graag herhalen, maar ik denk niet dat ik er erg fanatiek in word. Het resultaat is een gemeleerd garen -- normaal niet iets waar ik zelf mee zou breien, dus volgende keer wil ik graag wel een (semi) uni kleurtje maken.

So, now, am I infected by the dyeing virus? Would I try this again? I loved it, had a lot of fun and would like to repeat it, but I don't think I'll become a fanatic dyer. The resulting skein is a variegated yarn, which I'm usually not a fan of, so next time I'd like to go for something (semi-)solid.

Zo weinig tijd / So little time...

Mijn hoofd loopt over van de goeie ideeën en breiplannen... dat gevoel kennen jullie vast ook wel! :-) Mijn wolvoorraad is de voorbije maanden gestadig gegroeid, en voor bijna alle wolletjes weet ik al precies wat de bestemming ervan moet worden. Zoveel mooie patronen en zo weinig tijd! Ik kom (een beetje) slaap tekort doordat de dagen te snel voorbij zijn. En ik moet mezelf echt bedwingen om niet aan 20 projecten tegelijk te beginnen.

These days, my head is overflowing with good knitting-related ideas and plans. I'm sure you all know how that feels! :-) My stash has grown exponentially during the last few months, and for most yarns I already have a very nice and interesting pattern in mind. So many beautiful things to knit, so many exciting techniques to try out, and so little time! I find myself chronically lacking sleep (it's not too bad, though, just that the days are too short) and I have trouble keeping myself from starting 20 projects simultaneously.

Als compromis heb ik mezelf toegestaan om aan vijf projecten tegelijk te werken. De "slapende" projecten tellen niet mee. :-D

As a compromise, I'm allowing myself to work on five projects simultaneously, hibernating projects not included (haha, Pikku-Kettu, I can't help thinking about your System ;-).

Over de Boyfriend Socks en mijn papa's Fancy Socks heb ik al eerder geblogd. Weinig nieuws, behalve dat de Boyfriend Socks (eindelijk) bijna af zijn en dat ik overweeg om de Fancy Sock uit te halen en met fijnere naalden opnieuw te beginnen: Trekking XXL is net iets dunner dan de meeste andere sokkengarens.

I've already blogged about the Boyfriend Socks and my dad's Fancy Socks. Not much news there, except that the Boyfriend Socks are (finally) almost ready and that I'm considering frogging the Fancy Sock In Progress in order to start again with slightly thinner needles, because Trekking XXL is a bit finer than most regular sock yarns.

Verder ben ik met een nieuwe Candle Flame sjaal begonnen. Ik vind dat motief fantastisch, maar zie mezelf nog geen driehoekige omslagdoek dragen, daarom brei ik het patroon in een parallellogram-vorm (meerderen aan de linkerkant, minderen aan de rechterkant). De wol is Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000, hele zachte en rekbare merino van bij Lydialaine.



Furthermore, I've started a new Candle Flame scarf. I'm totally in love with that motif, but don't see myself wearing a triangular shawl, so I'm making it a parallellogram shape (increasing on one side, decreasing on the other). The yarn is Lana Grossa Cool Wool 2000: very soft and stretchy merino.

Een paar weken geleden kreeg ik een plotselinge ingeving: waarom moeten Pomatomus-sokken blauw zijn? En met een heerlijk felle rode streng Wollmeise-sokkenwol (kleur Granatapfel medium) ben ik aan een paar Tomatomi begonnen.



A few weeks ago, I got a sudden "revelation": why do Pomatomus socks necessarily need to be blue? With a lovely bright red hank of Wollmeise sock yarn (Granatapfel medium) I've started a pair of Tomatomi.

En op Ravelry zag ik toevallig de Hanami stole. Liefde op het eerste gezicht. Bij De Afstap in Amsterdam (wat een prachtige winkel, en op loopafstand van mijn nieuwe baan! Oh-oh...) kocht ik vier bolletjes lichtgrijze Rowan Kidsilk Night; zopas ben ik met de voorlopige opzetrij begonnen. Ik maak het "chaotische" kersenbloesempatroon aan beide uiteinden.

And on Ravelry I spotted the Hanami stole. Love at first sight. At De Afstap in Amsterdam (such a fabulous LYS! At walking distance from my new job -- uh-oh...) I bought four balls of light grey Rowan Kidsilk Night; I just started the provisional cast on. I intend to make the "chaotic" cherry blossom pattern on both sides of the stole.



Tussendoor heb ik ook een paar Saartjes Slofjes gemaakt voor mijn peetdochter en ben ik een grappig gehaakt "visnettasje" aan het afwerken. Knittingajour, herken je het garen? ;-) Mijn zonnebril heeft ook een nieuw jasje gekregen.



In the meanwhile, I also made a pair of Saartje's Bootees for my goddaughter, and I'm finishing a cheery crocheted fishnet market bag. Finally, my sunglasses have received a cheery summer coat.
